Recognizing the First Gas Street Lamp in America

Feb 16th 2015 Patrick Jardini, President
This President’s Day, as we honor the first President of the United States, we’d also like to take a moment to celebrate the recent anniversary of the first gas street lamp in America. On February 7, 1817, the first public gas street lamp was lit in Baltimore, Maryland. A replica of the original light was erected in 1997 at the corner of North Holliday Street and East Baltimore Street, where it still stands as a tribute to the enchanted history of gas lighting. Cheers to 198 years of American gas lighting!
